A TikToker moved social media by asking for help for an 81-year-old waitress who needs to work because she is too poor to retire.
TikToker Tamie Konzier and her son moved social media with a public request for help for Betty, an 81-year-old waitress who still needs to work because she is too poor to retire.
The influencer shared in a video that she and her son were at a restaurant in Pennsylvania, USA, when they noticed the waitress struggling to walk and heard Betty telling a nearby table that she had to continue working because her government benefits didn’t cover her monthly living expenses.
“The table next to her asked why she was still working, and she said that she only receives $910 a month from Social Security and still needs to work because her bills exceed $910,” Konzier explained in her post.
The initial video received over 6 million views, and the influencer promised to donate all the money raised through TikTok’s creator program directly to Betty.
Since Konzier won’t receive payment from TikTok until mid-April and had received countless offers of help for the waitress, she decided to create a GoFundMe account.
To the influencer’s surprise, within less than 24 hours, the page created for Betty had raised over $100,000.
According to a report by the *New York Post*, the fundraising had reached $140,000 when Konzier shared the news with Betty, who joked upon hearing the big news: “I think I’d better hire a financial advisor,” she said.
As of now, the GoFundMe campaign for Betty has received donations from nearly 10,000 people and raised over $200,000.
